Admission to FS1, British Curriculum, 2015/16

I am looking for school in Dubai for my daughter for FS1, I heard from lots of places that the minimum age for the child is now changed to 4 years my daughter will be 3 years old on 2nd of December this year and I am looking for the next year school when she will turn 4 years.

I didn’t check before and most of the school have already closed their admission for the next year and all the school which I visited they said minimum age for FS1 is 3 years. Only American curriculum school age is 4 years. Is that true?

I stay in Hor Al Anz Dubai and looking in the area Ghusais, Garhoud, Al Nahda.

I need some help. If I can get any good schools who have not closed their admissions for the next year admissions, it will be really appreciated.

Thanks & Regards, Atif

Dear Atif,

The rules have changed for entry to schools in the UAE and it is now the norm for all non-UK curriculum schools that children must have reached the age of 4 years by 31st December to be able to enter school. This rule applies to US curriculum and International curriculum schools. Most schools will not now permit children to join until they have already turned 4 – which is the norm in most countries. The exception is the UK curriculum, as schools there generally start at FS1 and children can start school at the age of 3 years on 1st September. The Ministry of Education has accepted this difference, but only schools with approval from the MoE/local Education Zone are able to offer FS1 to this age-group. My advice would be to check http://www.whichschooladvisor.com – Schools – Dubai nurseries as this is where the details of schools offering FS1 and FS2 can be found. You can then check by location on our interactive map on the Home Page and contact suitable schools. If you also check the latest availability information – also included on the link from our Home page – you will see which schools specifically mention FS1 availability. Good Luck!
