Admission for Year 1

Hi,

We are moving to Dubai from Qatar in October and I was wondering if anyone can give me feedback on Regent International School. Also, how is Gems Al Khail .

My son is going to be in Year 1 and he is currently in Gems Wellington Qatar.

HI,

We answered your previous question about Regent International.  GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail (the UK curriculum school which is co-located with GEMS International and the New Millennium schools) is a relatively new school that has recently been inspected for the second time by the regulator and was awarded a Good rating again.  It is a large school, still very much in expansion mode until such time as it reaches capacity with year 13 in a few more years.  It is a through-school (from FS1 to year 13 eventually) and to some extend this accounts for the size.

As with most GEMS schools, GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail delivers what is promises in terms of a Good standard of UK curriculum teaching.  It also offers a wide range of extra curricular activities and does have very good facilities including two swimming pools and extensive outdoor sports areas.  Its main drawback is probably location, in that you will either need to drive or bus your son to the school which is approx 15 minutes from the Greens/Meadows area.  However, due to the three schools all being located in close proximity, there are access issues at drop off and pick up (despite there now being staggered start and finish times between the schools) and this is something to bear in mind.
