KG1 Admission Regarding

Dear Sir,

I need to start looking out for KG-1 admission for my daughter in a Dubai school for next year. But my little one will turn 4 years old only on August 17th 2017 and as per the ministry rule the child should be 4 years until 31st of July to get KG-1 admission in Indian curriculum. So I am concerned about the following.

1. Is there any CBSE/ ICSE school which will waive off this 17 days of August and grant her admission in April 2017?

2. The other option I have is to place her in British curriculum for September 2017 which will benefit her as the cut off date is 31st December. But the issue here is what if I wanted to shift her to CBSE after FS1 or FS2 since UK curriculum starts in September and CBSE in April? Again the rule is a hindrance. The KHDA rules generally allows for a child to be promoted from one year group/grade to the next, only if he has completed the full school year – irrespective of age/cut off date.

Is there any CBSE/ ICSE school I can look up to for admission in this case as well?

Please advise

With regards,
Sainudheen Moosa

Dear Sainudheen,

Thank you for your message.  We have found that schools deal with this issue individually.  Initially, the KHDA did seem to be strict about the age cut off, but we have learned that there is some flexibility.  However, individual schools seem to prefer to adhere to the age cut off and this is their right.  You would need to approach the schools that are of interest to you to check this as there is no uniform response.

However, before deciding to place your daughter in KG1 before her 4th birthday, please bear in mind that she will be the youngest child in the class with children who may be more than a year older than her.  Only you can judge whether she is physically and emotionally mature enough to deal with children who may be much bigger and more “grown up” than she is.  If you have doubts about this and feel she may benefit from being allowed to mature for a further year at home or at nursery, this may be the better decision.
