Kg1 admissions ( indian/cbse curriculum)

Hi sir, My son was born in June2013. Now he is 3n1/2 yrs. As per the rule(before jul312017) he is turn 4 on june2017. But we decided to take admission for kg1 in next yr.This yr we take him to kindergarten. Bcs he is not mature and not self assured. In next yr he is 5 yr and 1 month as per rule. Is he get admission in next yr for kg1in Indian/cbse curriculum? We are right or wasting 1yr?

Hi Aswathy,

It is likely that the schools will decide which is the best grade for your son.  Often they do not like to have children who are considerably older than the others in their class, as they can both physically and educationally find it tougher to adjust.  If you feel your son is not mature enough for school next April, you can of course keep him out of school – legally he does not need to attend until the year in which he is turning 6 – but you would then need to agree with the school that he should enter at KG1 to which they do not have to agree.  They may feel that by this stage he is confident enough to join KG2 and that he should be able to catch up quickly.
