cut-off dates
Respected Sir/Madam,
I am writing to seek your kind advise for my younger son’s school admission, who will turn 3 years by this May. We prefer to enroll him in an Indian Curriculum school, just like his elder brother who is in Grade 2 now. However, with the new cut-off dates, March for Indian schools. I am put into a dilemma, that he can only start next year for Pre-Kg. He is a brilliant kid and I am wondering why lose a year. Alternatively, if I were to explore options for an IB or British curriculum starting in September and to enrol him in FS1 , it is very hard to find a good school in the vicinity of Bur Dubai, as we live here. Most of the schools are quite far off and I personally feel longer travel puts toll on the kids. Help me out here pls.

I understand the dilemma that you are faced with but there is a great deal of research that suggests it is better to be the oldest in the class rather than the youngest, both in terms of the child’s academic, emotional and social development. FS1 and pre-KG are essentially the same grade and the activities that your son will participate in will be very similar – all schools at this stage focus essentially on learning through play. Any good school will also recognise your son’s talents and ensure that they are developed. My advice would be to place him in pre-KG where he will have an opportunity to develop and move on within the same school as your son.
