Grade equivalency in Sharjah

Hi! We have been told that our child needs to start the next grade curriculum after spending less than a year in the current grade (two terms only) due to some equivalency issue implemented on Sharjah schools.

The school says that its not optional and all Sharjah schools will have to follow this procedure.

I would appreciate some feedback from other parents/ professionals as I’m at a complete loss of understanding.

At this point it is next to impossible to find placements. I have no objection in updating but I have no knowledge of whether the children will be asked to start a new curriculum midway in next term too. The school says its a two year shift so I’m quite worried. Would appreciate a quick response.

Thank You.

Dear Sharjahmum,

We have not been provided with further information on this topic.  We do know that all schools now appear to consider date of birth as the key factor when determining which grade is appropriate.  My advice would be to recontact the school and ask for an exact explanation as to the requirements.  It may be possible to appeal to Sharjah Education Zone if you believe that the grade is inappropriate, but the school is best placed to advise you in this regard.
